BENARES

A PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY TO A 3000 YEARS OLD CITY

During October 2008, I visited Benares, one of the oldest cities in the world (estimated date of foundation dates back to 1200-1000 BC). Apart from the essence and charm that the city has gathered through the ages, it symbolizes the cultural and religious unity of India, being a holy city of the Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, and the Muslims.

With Ganga(Ganges) flowing by its side it has over hundreds of Ghats (steps leading to the river/watrbody). These ghats along with the winding bylanes of the city it is a good place to test your photography skills.
